Bio

Hello Huntington Hawks!!! My name is Ms. Cherry, and I was born and raised in Thomaston, GA. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Middle Grades Education in December 2018 and my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in the Summer of 2023 from Georgia Southern University. I began my career at Hampton Middle School in McDonough, GA in January 2019. I have taught Language Arts for one year, Math for four years, and this will be my sixth year teaching overall.

My favorite color is orange, and I love music and coffee!!! Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a teacher. There's just something about numbers and being able to discuss texts with different points of views that gets me excited. I hope to transfer that same energy to you by the end of this year.

Why I Became A Teacher

I began my journey teaching because a few of my teachers challenged and believed that I could do it. I was scared to death, but I overcame the challenges. Those teachers changed my life for the better, and I wanted to do the same. Now that I’ve been teaching for 5 years, my reason has changed for the better. It’s about the students. The students who have to care for their siblings when they get home. Those who have to worry about where their next meals are coming from. The ones who have to worry about being abused for no reason. Students who have to worry about their lights being cut off. The students who have to worry about not having any new clothes to put on and being bullied at school. Students who have to worry about not getting any sleep at home because they have to pick up a second job to take care of family bills. The ones who have to worry about keeping up their grades and this picture perfect life for their family. Those who are living in a hotel because their house caught on fire, and their mom told them not to tell anyone. Students who can’t just be students. Kids who can’t just be kids. Kids who now have to step into adult shoes.

They are my reason why.

I want to see them succeed! I want to tell them yes when everyone else tells them no. I want to tell them they can when everyone else tells them they can’t. I want them to know I believe in them when everyone else doesn’t! I want to see them make it, and they’re able to come back and tell me “you were the one who said I could, and I did!”
