Why I Teach

For me, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. Therefore, I embrace teaching as an opportunity to inspire and empower. I believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.

As an educator, my responsibility is not to give up on students no matter how challenging it might be, but to overcome the struggles and give each student the opportunity of learning and development. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. Each student learns differently, and in my opinion, it is vital to teach the way they learn. Being an individual that is compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated to working with young minds, I know that I am the type of person who can handle each day at a time and not burn out like many teachers eventually do. My passion is not just to teach, but also to help students learn and comprehend the material needed for their development.

Course Description

Math Intervention at HMS is designed to give students individualized practice in math by providing them with strategies and tools to help them progress as well as reflect material being taught in their core mathematics class. This class serves as a 80-minute connection class. During this time, students will participate in small group instruction, math programs via computer, and other interactive math activities designed to help support basic math computation and fluency as well as the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Previewing academic content and/or vocabulary, reteaching of class standards, and remediation of difficult concepts are just some of the many tasks we will work on this year.
