HMS Principal Dr. Taylor to serve on National Board of Directors

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Huntington Middle School Principal Dr. Gwendolyn Taylor has been appointed to serve on the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Board.  She will represent middle school principals as the “Middle-School At Large” officer.  She is the first person from Georgia to ever be appointed to the NASSP Board.

“It is an honor to serve on this national board,” said Dr. Taylor.  “I will do my best to represent Georgia and all middle school principals across the U.S.”

NASSP, which has 25,000 members nationwide, is governed by the Board of Directors, which consists of 20 building administrators.  Dr. Taylor will serve for two years and will represent the middle school view point.  This Board meets four times per year to take care of the business of the association, which includes policy and advocacy for education.

Melton Callahan, Executive Director of Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP), commented, “This is a really big deal for Dr. Taylor and our state organization!  She is the first Georgian to ever be appointed to this board.”

He added, “Dr. Taylor is an outstanding professional.  In my years of association with her, I have seen her grow as a school leader and as our Past-President of our state association. Her enthusiasm, self-confidence and willingness to take on all challenges are just a few things that made her great ‘fit’ for this national leadership role.  We are extremely proud of Dr. Taylor!”

During the previous school year she served as President of the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP), the state’s largest building level administrative association with more than 1,200 members statewide.  She has also served as the GASSP Second Vice President and State Coordinator on the GASSP Board of Directors.  GASSP promotes cultural and professional development among Georgia’s secondary school administrators and promotes secondary education in the state.

Huntington Middle School is located at 206 Wellborn Road in Warner Robins.  For more information, please contact Dr. Taylor at 478-542-2440 or visit www.nassp.org.
